Frequently asked questions
Where and when do you work?
I work in the centre of Stirling and can offer appointments on most days except Wednesdays. I can also offer some weekend and evening sessions.
How much does it cost?
My fee is £35 per session.
How long do sessions last?
Sessions last 50 minutes.
For how long and how often will I attend?
Weekly sessions are typical at the beginning of counselling. We usually agree to 4 sessions and then review progress. At this point you can decide if you need to change how often you attend counselling.
How long you attend is entirely up to you. Some people get the help they need in just a few sessions while others take longer.
What if I decide to go ahead?
Text, email or telephone me using the methods on the Contact page. I cannot always answer the phone immediately but will get back to you as soon as I can, normally within 24 hours.
When I phone, you can tell me what brought you to counselling and what you want to achieve. It is important for counsellors to work within the limits of their competencies, so I will ask you some questions so that I can be confident of working effectively with you. Similarly, you can make a decision about whether what I offer meets your needs.
If you still want to go ahead after our initial discussion we will arrange a time and date for our first meeting.
What happens in the first session?
I will take some details, and listen some more to what you tell me about why you have come and what you want to work on.
We will review a contract which outlines what we can expect from each other. It includes important issues such as confidentiality. If you are happy with the contract you can sign it.
How do I pay for the sessions?
You can pay by cash or cheque at the end of each session. I am unable to accept credit cards.
Not all my questions have been answered.
If there is anything else you would like to discuss about counselling or psychotherapy please call or email me.
